The meaning behind the logo
When creating The Traveller’s Mate, we wanted the logo to reflect heavily on our attitudes towards camping, and something that would resonate within our Australian culture and heritage. So today’s blog is about deciphering the name, the slogan, and the art itself!
The Name - The Traveller’s Mate
The name simply refers to any adventurer or traveler who loves a bit of company. Memories are always made when traveling, and it’s great fun to reminisce about a few months/years with the mates you went with. No road is long with good company.
The Slogan - Takin’ it easy
Similar to the name, Takin’ it easy is quite self-explanatory and requires no strings attached. When we camp, it’s almost like entering a different world. Gum trees replace the high-rise, backpacks replace the briefcases, and adventure replaces the 9-5. So taking it easy and soaking it in are just two blessings camping has to offer.
The Art
Australian history is and continues to be divided. Between white settlement, and the indigenous of our great lands, the country has within the last 10 years increased the acknowledgment of the traditional custodians of this land, and paid their respects both past and present. We want to remember our dark past, so we can create a brighter future. One that shares this beautiful country instead of destroying its soul through excessive mining and agricultural harvests.
I believe as an Australian, it’s fundamental to create a collaborative future, which I’ve done so with the image. The layers of Tan circles refer to Aboriginal Calligraphy and symbolize campsite. The fire in the middle represents a Western depiction, and is also, my favourite thing about camping.
The colour green refers to the beautiful nature Australia offers home to thousands of species of wildlife. The tan colour refers to the sandstone that treasures our land from coast to coast.
Conclusion
To summarize the logo, it’s a way of not taking life so seriously whilst spending it in good company, whilst acknowledging our country’s history and working towards a future that both sides can reflect and resonate with.
